Our condo board is considering replacing woodsiding on a two story , slab on ground, box shaped building with Hardie Plank.
The building has horizontal wood clapboards on it now and they are 15-20 years old . Bulding is probably 90 x 40. One half of one side is beaten up by the sun and the wood is warped knots falling out sap lines cracks etc.
If Hardie is used, do we lose structural strength?
As in do we need an architech to see if replacing the wood with Hardie will weaken the building?

No, because wood clapboards do not provide structural benefit that is of any consequence.
