I have a free form gunnite pool. One side( about 30′) is surrounded by a concrete deck (about 9′). This goes into a old ugly, but sound 2′ retaining wall, made of concrete block. 1. The pool coping must be removed it is brick and is spalling. 2. There are no cracks between the bond beam and the pool and I have been told by two professionals that the beam does not have to be recast. What I want to do and need help on is: 1. Remove the brick and level the top of the bond beam. 2. Place cast concrete retaining wall stone on top of the bond beam to a level of about 2′. 3. Fill the area between the new wall (the pool) and the old wall with stone, drainage pipe and soil. Planting material would go up there. I know it might be a pool maintenance nightmare from leaves etc. I would also use the filtering material and ground material (geo something which I can’t remember now) between the new wall and the stone. Can this be done. If so could I have to mortar the base of the new retaining wall into the bond beam or maybe use anchor pins in the bond beam with corresponding holes drilled in the bottom of the block. Hope somebody can help.
