If 'stone' means ¾" washed gravel or crushed stone, the answer is 'yes.' From the bottom up: Gravel, polyethylene vapour barrier, concrete slab.
Don't forget to vibrate the gravel and tape the plastic.

thats the way i was taught does'nt always mean it's right tho.
I agree with Dinosaur--not that he needs my approval--he knows more about it than I do, but I thought maybe a little explanation may be in order: the reason for doing it as he suggests is that any ground water coming up (or surface water coming down)will percolate into the gravel and migrate to perimeter where drain tiles can take it away. Plastic will keep water and water vapor from coming up through the concrete slab and making it damp (like a big concrete sponge) and making whole basement damp. Compacting the stone helps prevent settling and supports slab better and evenly and helps prevent cracking. At least that's what I've been told.
Do masons do concrete?
Anyways, that system sounds right to me.

if they are cement masons.
we call them finishers.
unless they are brick masons.
then they are brickies.
could be a stone mason.
the old italian ones around here are called stonamase
and they build chimleys
now if you wanted someone to lay concrete block.
then you would call a mason.

He is right about that.
But I'm sure his wife knows when he is wrong about anything else.
