To All,
I generally post over in Knotts but thought you folks may know better. Ps- I am not a professional painter, these are just my observations.
I bought Valspar outdoor 100% acrylic paint from a local lumberyard and was very happy with the paint. Nice coverage and pretty smooth flow. Ive used other brands, and was really happy with the price point, and the performance of the paint.
Now, I was at Lowes the other day and was told they carried Valspar. Picked up three gallons of interior latex. Began to paint and noticed the coverage was not as good and the flow was ok at best. Plus, I paid Lowes more per gallon than the lumberyard (convienence reasons) for Valspar. I did not use any additives for either paint project either.
Question, Does anyone know if they (Lowes) has a special Valspar made for them, or is it my imagination?
Thanks for any reply!
Joe P

If the label says Valspar then it is probably the same.
That is, a given mfg will make a dizzying array of paints under different labels. Valspar, for instance, markets its own line, but most of their output is produced for various house brands. The forumla they use for one house brand may be very different than what they use for another house brand -- or their own line.
But generally, I have always considered paints branded "Valspar" to be of very good quality.

Nikki,
Thanks for the reply. I will continue to use Valspar. But the next time, I will go back to the local lumberyard to buy it and then make a judgement. Nothing against Lowes, but I dont think its my imagination. Both projects were no more than 2 wks apart.
Thanks Joe P
Paint can be confusing. A paint rep told me recently that there are only a handful of manufacturers that make all the various lines and brands sold in the country. If the paint you bought at Lowes carried Lowes label, even though the guy told you it was made by Valspar, most likely, it was not exactly the same paint you bought under the Valspar brand at your lumberyard. It is common for the retailer to spec the ingredients for their house brands -- which may be a higher, but probably a lower quality than what is used in the regular Valspar brand.********************************************************

There is no such thing as Valspar paint. Just like their isn't a Sherwin Williams or a Benjaim Moore paint.
They are brands. And within each one of there brands they make a number of different products.
When talking about paint you always need to look at the name of the product, not the brand.
Here are some of their paint lines.

And American Traditions which is a Lowes exclusive.
.
Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Bill,
Thanks for the reply. Your explanation sums it up. I used two different products mfg by the same company.
Well, Valspar under there own brand, is nicer to paint with than the Lowes paint mfg by Valspar for Lowes. IMHO.
Thanks Joe P
