I can’t find the recent thread where someone mentioned Isokern. So I will start this thread.
Anyone know if an Isokern fireplace and chimmney installation is a doable DIY project for someone who is a detailed oriented person willing to tactle most anything? I know defining skill level is difficult. But in my case I try most anything and have never been disappointed in the results. Well, ok . . . drywall taping without texturing could have been a bit closer to perfect . . but. At any rate, I have tiled, plumbed, remodeled bathrooms, finished basements, roofed a 12 in 12 pitch roof alone with dormers etal, etc.
Obviously with a fireplace not only does a job need to look good it must be done correctly. So are there pitfalls with an Isokern or is it pretty straight forward? I am guessing pretty strainght forward with a few issues around the dampers, roof line, and use of the glue/cement.

We can imagine something that only exists in our heads, in a form that has no measureable, tangible reality, and make it actually occur in the real world. Where there was nothing, now there is something.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. A bird sings because it has a song.

We put in a Isokern fp when we built in 2001. IF it was a single story I'd DIY. I have three extra chimney dampers if you want to buy one.
