I recently looked at masonary heaters. They were trying to sway me away from a conventional chimeny. They thought the mortar joints would go with the higher flu temps.I am not certain if this is true.
The other options were an isokern chim vs a steelasbestos( brand name for insulated double pipe). Any experience out there using these systems.I recall hearing about problems in the 70’s with steel pipe.Has the stuff improved?
thanks

Hey Frank again. Finished a house that had a Tulikivi installed. They used metalbestos chimney covered from stove to ceiling with a round soapstone pipe chase. Very good looking. We've got a clay lined conventional chimney. Outside of no creosote after 10 yrs of burning, don't know of any problems with flue temp.
*Calvin,Thanks for your reply. It sounds like the metalasbestos bibe is the way to go.Frank
*Frank, Metal"bestos", not the "A"word. Bestos buddy.
*Calvin,Checking out the archives, I found an old post by you about a friend who makes heaters in NE NC. Please send me his name and # (off line if you prefer). Are you still enthusiastic about masonry heaters?Frank
*Sent you his email address. You bet I'm excited........not now, it's too warm, but come fall.......If you got the money, it's way better than a wood stove/gas fireplace/conventional fireplace. You'll split less, carry less and be more comfortable. Best of luck.
