i went to the doctor last week, to get the results from some blood i had drawn a couple weeks ago. and much to my surprise the lead levels seem to high, the reading 12.7 micro grams per deciliter the exceptable rangs is 10 . does any one have experience with lead levels that are high. what were the treatment’s , i do plan to go back to the doctor to get the follow up. what was wondering if there are any one else who has had this problem?? thanks for any input…….. k

There is a way they can tell from the right kind of readings whether this is a loing term buildup or an intense one time thing. Further tests can confirm - for instance bones and hair I think will have more than blood if this is a long standing problem.
I am just under ten and that is long term and not getting any worse, so no treatment. I tend to doubnt they will offer you treatment unless there are other symptoms or it is short term and getting worse. first thing is to interrupt the cycle. You have a clue how this came about? what potential sources of lead are there in your life and work.
If you do need treatment, chelation therapy is it. Other ionized meetals are added to your system to buind with the lead and your blood is run through a machine to suck it out.
Another important consideration is whether yopur children have the same exposure. If the source is at home, the answer is opbviously yes and they are far more vulnerable than an adult. But if the source is OTJ, you could be bringing ebnough lead home in dust on your clothing to effect them. Consider tests for them too. Your physician should be on that idea with all four feet anyway.
Good luck - and to put your mind at rest - if you could understand all this, you are probably OK

thank you paul for quick response. it was definitely on the job . i've been on this very large farm group around 98 years old for around 5 years . and relize that i have to get more info as far as the length of time this has been going on. back during the late fall, i was on this leg of setting up for winter and stripping doors with liquid stripper, and a new little toy i got a couple years ago, called a silent paint stripper. i reconstitute the paint with B.L.O and mineral spirits . set up a fan ,have a respirator, goggles, rubber gloves, jump suit. then go to town, this where my suspicion lies. also my shop where is set up in the main walk threw 30'x 30' and there is insufficent dust collection, and air filtration that will be rectified -PDQ- I 've tossed around moving the whole shop scraping then apply an -LCB- paint. but am praying thta the dust collection and the air fltration will help me out . how long did it take for your blood levels to go back to normal?? what awaits me on the back end if this been going on for awhile?? thanks again paul appreciate it............. kent.." we judge ourselves by our motives, and others by their actions........."
Piffin pretty much summed up the typical treatment for adults with slightly high elevated blood lead levels: removal from the source until the level returns to normal. Assuming, as in most adults, the source of the lead is related to occupation or a hobby. If you have kids that have not been tested, they should be.
One thing: if this is a "screening" test (i.e., blood was taken from a finger stick), the results may be off due to contamination (e.g., finger not cleaned properly) and a confirmatory venous blood sample may be lower.
Level of concern for adults is higher than for children. And the effects are quite different as well. Centers for Disease Control has recommended adults levels below 25 micrograms/deciliter. Data from 1998 through 2001 indicated that the average blood lead level in adults in the US was around 3 micrograms/deciliter. Ideally, of course, everyone's level would be zero, but lead is ubiquitous in the environment.
thanks jim ,a follow -up will be more revealing with rectifying the problem. thank goodness there's no ittle people to worry about here, that would present ####whole diffrent set of problems. thanks again..." we judge ourselves by our motives, and others by their actions........."
