I was setting an exterior pre-hung door today, I got it close so I just tacked my nails in place just in case of needed adjustment. turns out i needed to rack it a little at the top, so i used my cats paw and started to ease out the nail. The nail head broke clean sending the claws of my cats paw into my face, next to my nose and right under my eye. Needless to say not only am I lucky that i just have a black eye, but I still have an eye. just a simple reminder for everyone that even when your careful bad things can happen.

That reminded me of the time I knocked myself out!
I was working a concrete crew at the time. About 19yrs old. Busting up an old pool deck that was being replaced. Had the 5' digging bar...this one had a slight angle with a flat end...like a giant pry bar......was working it......loosening the big chunks....following the jackhammer......got it wedged under a nice big section....
Boss said..Great, ya got my favorite bar stuck...I said, No way.....I'll get it loose and get this big piece out to boot.......
Took a good wide legged stance..........pulled the bar straight back.....towards my chest..........needed to put a little more force into it..........pulled harder and lowered my head...looking down.......to pull harder.......
Heard a little "ping"....then woke up on the ground! The curved end had snapped.....the bar came back and hit me square on the top of the head........
Luckily I had always had real thick/longer hair! Thinking all that hair under the ball cap was all the protection I needed. Did have a bit of a headache......
Haven't felt any adverse effects since....
what?
huh?
what?

I was on my knees working under the stairway during the construction of my own house, nailing in some trim. The hotwater heater was still in its box beside me. I raised up to recharge the nailer or whatever and bumped the back of my head on the stairway, then, from reflex I guess, my head lurched forward and I struck the corner of the water heater box with my right eye....HARD!
For a few days my sinuses kept filling with blood and DW (RN) took me to the doc. Turns out I had fractured the orbital bones in my eyesocket!
Fortunately, the bones weren't displaced so it healed on its own, but had they been displaced, the doc said I would have had to have a surgery where they peel off your face, like removing drywall to get at the plumbing or something.
(Of course, in my case, face removal might have been an opportunity).
Working in Victoria, British Columbia - building those ugly gigantic box homes with a 4' x4' lawn on a 30' x 130' lot.
2 guys working on the framing crew not paying attention when they were working with some lovely green studs, you know the kind that are very sticky.
They were building a wall, one guy was holding the stud while the other was nailing, went right through, hit and stuck in his forehead. No permanent damage but was really lucky it didn't go through his eye socket. Reminds you to always look where you are shooting.

Ok this is starting to sound like SNL. With Billy Crystal and Martin Short.
" One time I was walking in the basement and I walked by the wall and the ah-ah"
"Bolt?"
"Yeah the bolt hit me in the ah-ah"
"Arm?"
"Yeah and I huuurrrt"
Well, that explains a lot....(someone was going to say it! might as well be me....)
On the other hand, you were still smart enough to marry Cathy, so it couldn't have hurt you too bad.
