It was always troublesome, but now my son is the one that is complaining when he is under the joist when the gun slips off and the gob of PL lands in his hair. Solved the problem, using a 29oz pro caulking gun, Simpson SP2, and 3 4-40 3/8″ mach screws and nuts. When you don’t need the guide you turn the frame and it is out of the way, the rest of the time you have a cheap but good guide.

I would have him shave "the rest" of his head, but it seems that he got his hair line from his mother side and it will be mostly gone soon!

Ya, that's what I thought. Great idea.tagline-...for two, three, and four years, it being understood that partitions are run through those cellars which are adapted to the size of the family. The wealthy and principal men in New England, in the beginning of the colonies, commenced their first dwelling-houses in this fashion for two reasons: firstly, in order not to waste time in building, and not to want food the next season; -Thoreau's Walden

although it's a great tip, I've seen it in Taunton's Building Tips on page 77.
I did the same with a peice of 1.5" steel stud channel. It broke my heart to drill holes in the frame of my caulk gun though.
You only need 3 holes for the 4-40 screws, and usually the PL that missed the mark ends up in the holes.
