Labor to install new kitchen cabinets in new home? The cabinets are in the house, granite guys to install the tops. Should I price by the box, or by the hour?
Thank you.

A word of caution. If you charge by the box and the designer has you going back multiple times to finish odds and ends due to missing parts, damaged items, mistakes in the design, customer unhappiness issues, taking up slack where the builder leaves off (moving appliances, doing ductwork, getting cabinets into position from garage or something then be prepared to make very little. If I know the designer, have done several kitchens with them and they have a good track record, they have earned the per box pricing. until then I charge by the hour plus travel time for those 20 minute last details that required a 1 hour drive each way.

"Should I price by the box, or by the hour?"
wadda ya mean by "price"?
do U mean figuring your set bid out by either?
or do U mean that charging by the hour , no set bid, is an option?

Good advice from all.
As a designer I price by the box, but I also figure in at least 1 extra trip charge for any job. For those where the job and/or customer is fairly demanding, I may add a couple of trips. That way my installer knows the exact amount he gets for the install and also the minimum he can expect for a call back. Keeps me in good stead with my installers.
As far as pricing by the hour, be sure you factor in the time it takes to actually set up to start work, especially if you think you may have to make several trips to a jobsite.
