How do you guys handle crown on the sides of stock cabinets? The face frame stands proud from the side of the cabinet by about an 1/8.

I notch the 1/8 out where the trim wraps.
I usually fill with a thin rip from a fill strip, or order a skin for the whole side of the cab. Many of the prebuilts will have a faux melamine side which needs covered anyway.
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

I have only done about 30 kitchens and always suggested finish end panels but only got one to spend the money on them.
So when you add the filler strip behind do you add shadow line or hold flush on bottom of trim?
I let the cabinet/door style tell me where to hold it. Sometimes it looks better to me to hold flush. Sometimes the reveal that the crown makes with the door and sometimes almost the full stile thickness. Really decide on the spot, each time.A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

notch with a cope saw.
For large crown, I notch the face frame down about 3/16" with a Japanese pull-saw.
Small crown looks odd "buried" in a notch, so a thin rip or scribe-molding or end-skin to fill the space is better IMO.
I, personally, dislike the look of notching the face frame. I either cut a strip, use an end skin or a finished end panel.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks for responding. I have notched it in the past but thought I would ask.Craftwork Construction LLC
