I am remodeling my kitchen and would like to replace my 25+ yr. nutone exhaust fan above the stovetop-(has two turbine fans-sticker states use in 8700-8720 A series). It is not enclosed in a hood due the fact I have an brick archway cooking enclosure. The existing exhaust fan is flush mounted in the ceiling (appox. 12″x15″). I have looked at all the top makers, Broan, Nutone, Panasonic and I am unable to find a single exhaust fan that is rated “above-range”….Panasonic states not to use theirs due to the heat issues. The drywall guy is coming next week to patch the holes and I need to get the fan quick while we can access the open ceiling. Thanx in advance for your input

There are over the range, fan only and those that come with lights in the box. The box is not much to look at, meant to be inserted or surrounded by a custom hood. (hood only, no motor.)
Broan has some, thermidor, fantech and several others.
Here's some brands to scope out: http://www.kitchensource.com/range-hoods/
A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
Spoke with a tech. today, with many decades working at nutone, described my old 25+yr. fan and he said keep it!!! "Run it til it blows up, and I'll sell you another motor". He said newer isnt always better, and the old unit I have is a good one!!! Sounds like some wise advise......I'll say the motor still is quiet and has very little vibration, speaks volumes for their quality. Thanks all!!!!
There you go.
About 25 yrs ago I removed a similar kitchen exhaust fan (old at the time) from a client's house. Since then it's duty was to move heated air around my woodshop (for several years) and currently is the remote kitchen exhaust fan in our present house. I suppose it'll die someday, but I have no idea when.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
