I’m planning to reno my small kitchen and have chosen walnut cabinets with modern hardware. It’s 10’x10′
I don’t want to go crazy and get brazillian cherry, but I’d like to get something afforable but still have it look good. Any suggestions? Tile? Cork? Hemlock boards?
Thx.

hi,
cook a decent amount, got a 2yr old and a 40 lb energetic dog.......
tile? but then maybe someone will get hurt falling? but maybe then get those cook's rubber matts?
best,

I'd say tile is your best bet, but not a smooth one. Kids and dogs generally don't like to wear shoes, so look for a tile that has some tooth - maybe one that is molded to resemble stone.
Kitchen Flooring
There are many choices, each has plus and negatives. Where the house is geographically can be a factor in regards to comfort. If you subscribe to "Fine Home Building On Line" it will open up to you many articles that will help you answer your questions and concerns.
IMHO, I do not care for tile flooring, especially in the kitchen, nearly anything that falls on it will break even from a lower shelf in the refridgerator.
I'd go for nice vinyl sheet flooring myself.
Well, they are FAAbulous floors!
Why?
Your comment regarding the suitability of vinyl is a fine observation. But why do you find it necessary to disparage gays? And do you really think that only the "rich" can afford something a bit nicer than sheet vinyl?
I think this is the site for your point:

Tile is TOO hard on the feet
I agree with sheet vinyl.
Tile is seriously hard on the feet if you are not wearing shoes. I cook A LOT and never wear shoes indoors (not for any other reason than I hate wearing shoes) and tile makes my feet and legs hurt. You could get those rubber restaurant mats, but then your kitchen will look like a restaurant.
I did a quick onceover on our kitchen floor about 5 years ago and didn't have a lot of money. I spent about $300 at a place called Ollies and bought some discountinued laminate flooring. Looks good still. Easy to clean still. 3 kids and a BIG lab. Lots of use and it has held up very well for the 3 bills I've got invested in it. Put the "premium" underlayment under it and glued all of the seams even though it wasn't required. Have had no problems with wear and tear or water damage. It's held up better than I imagined it would as I planned on replacing it with something else when it wore out or got damanged. At this rate it will easily go another 5 years at least.
When we do the "BIG" kitchen remodel it will be sheet vinyl all the way.
