hey all
I have just finished installing kraft faced fiberglass batts inthe exterior wills of my addition and I got to thinking…do I need to repair and tears in the facing to maintain the vapor barrier properties? Ilive in Hamilton, MT where the is relativeily low humidity and moderate to cold winters.
thanks for any advice

What good is avaporbarrier if its full of holes?
. Unless you repair the rips, its doing no vapor preventing at all.
Greetings wildside, Welcome to Breaktime.
If you scroll down in the lower left corner of your screen there is a search function that will take you to previous threads dealing with whatever you type in the search bar.
Typing in 'fiberglass insulation' 'vapor barrier' or something similar will bring you to a wealth of information regarding such in these old threads.
Those have been topics well discussed over the years with varied degrees of opinions. (cough cough)
Seeing you are in cold country, added insulation normally doesn't hurt.
Since your FG is already up, you may want to investigate the possibility of cutting slots in your hole laden kraftpaper and putting 1/2 or 1inch foil backed celotex foam board over your studding before your finished wall. Foil tape the seams.
But that is just a humble suggestion to help direct your quest.
Cheers

we have only a few tears, so I think taping will do. with this in mind what about the outlets boxes, etc. that had to be cut around. do the edges of the facing need to be taped around the outlet box? what kind of tape would you reccommend?
Take a look at http://www.buildingscience.com/ for some good information on insulating in different climates and using different material. Vapor retarding menbranes are also covered.

thanks for the great website!
A few holes tape it, many holes, visqueen vapor barrier. However, you can't glue the drywall anymore.
