Kraft faced or poly barrier vs. PVA
Anybody have any good data on vapor barrier effectiveness of a high quality PVA application inside vs. a faced batt or unfaced batt and poly sheething on the warm side?
I never really believed a PVA could do much, but I have no reasoning behind that. I always use unfaced r-38 in attics around here and shoot PVA and backroll, which works fine. I’d like to do the same with r-21 in walls but I’m afraid the walls are a wetter situation than the attic–or at least have much less effective insulation values–which could lead me toward disaster. Major concerns are moisture on the board and possible paint failure inside, but my building inspector seems to think its okay. Anyone?
Rather look dumb and ask than be dumb and re-rock a house a year later.
