If my hole in my concrete slab is just slightly too large for a snug lag shield fit, can I start my lag screw first and then tap both together in to the hole and still have it function properly? I’m just using them to keep a post on a short arbor from moving. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks. JohnKu

Packing some slivers of wood around the outside of the lead shield will usually do the trick. I will often use round toothpicks for this purpose.

Thanks. Toothpicks save the day more often than I'd like to admit! Kudos for the epoxy idea as well-if I had any laying around I'd give it a try.
I didn't consider your application; but if this is going to be used outside, on a horizontal surface, where water would accumulate around the shield, then I agree with the others that it would be better to use something that won't rust -- like pieces of copper wire or galvanized finish nails that you have clipped off so they won't protrude.********************************************************

either the slivers like Nikki suggested or epoxy would work
or glue or finish nails...
no- I don't mean glue on nails;)

Cut nails, the fix all for lots of wrong holes.

Toothpicks will rot away. small finish nails would work, or pieces of copper wire.
