I am looking in to purchasing a new home. In the basement there is 3 2X3 Girder beams going acorss the basement ceiling for support. The whole length is about 36 feet with w a beak in the beams for the basement stair case.
My Question is the beams are slightly slanted and there were only two brick colums on each side of the stair case for support. But noe the current home owner added two temporay lally columns to one side and another one to the other side. I have no recieved and answer to why there are temporary ones.
Any insight would be helpful. Becuase by code i though steel ones needed to be in place if there was an issue.
Thanks

Helped Pop put a 'temporary' lally column under similar beam in their house awhile back until Pop could put a steel strap across the bottom.
That was in 1956, still there.
