All,
I am getting ready to install a laminate backsplash extending from the countertop, deck type, to the bottom of the upper cabinets. How do I do it and what should I look out for during the installation process?
Thanks,
dlb

dlb-- I like to use SmartClips to install backsplashes. They make a very tight fit to the counter and are pretty simple to use. For a full backsplash like you want I would also use some construction adhesive and brace the tops of the splashes until it sets.
I can't remember right now where I get the Smart Clips but I'll post back when I do.
Ok, I found them. They're available thru http://www.McFeelys.com .Get the whole set-up (clips, router bit, spacing bar, and driver/depth setter) to simplify installation.
if you have any questions about using them, feel free to ask.
laminate is usually installed on a wall as you describe with contact cement and yes it is tricky
the laminate has to be precut to the exact size and carefully positioned before touching the wall
its much easier before installing the countertop and even easier if the upper cabinets are out of the way
electrical boxes can be cut out after laminating if the receptacles are removed and the wires pushed way back into the box, the laminate cutout can then be done with a laminate trimmer using the box as a guide
cutting for a window opening can be done the same way after removing the trim
basically it gets easier with each item removed from the area and almost imposible without removing something
caulking is not a piece of trim
