What is the trick to installing laminate flooring
The straps that you use to pull it together.

I have not done a lot of that, but what I recall doing, there was no difference from snapping it together out in the field.

The toe kick/and width of plank would limit how far the plank could be tipped up to lock it together would it not/
This is true, but I don't recall needing to lift it more than a couple of inches. Maybe you have a brand that requires more angle of insertion...

Guess I'll just have to "wing it". Have tried the sliding under one toekick but, I'll have them at both ends with 5-6ft. in between. The locking channel can be shaved off the bottom of the receiving plank under the toekick but I'm not sure that will help all that much.
Maybe I'm "fretting" too much. Just thinking ahead of problems with previous floor jobs.
Are you Toledoan, as in Glass City Toledoan?
Another reply here was from Calvin who is from O-hi-O, but all I've ever done there is drive through

Well I'll be darned. Another member from the Glass City.
If you can get the clamp straps, put the pc under each toekick, slide them apart till they butt the kick. Put the pc in the middle, hook the straps and pull them altogether.
Whereabouts in Tol.? A great place for Information, Comraderie, and a sucker punch.

Hey Popeye!
I'm not from Toledo, but from a city just to your south - Findlay.
Anyway, I will be installing some laminate soon that shows in their instructions how to install under an obstruction. It is a laminate that you have to tip about 30 degrees to click it together.
It's like what you said, shave off the ridge of the locking channel on both pieces, use some glue on the joint, and then, as Calvin said, pull them together with a strap clamp.

Hey Klakamp.......
This Brand is Royalty sold thru Lowes, a tile plank, also a no glue "click to fasten variety".
What brand were you dealing with, website and install instructions were where?
Popeye,
By the way, what's your first name?
Are you a contractor in Toledo? I get up that way now and then. Cal is always there.
The brand of floor I am installing is Kronopol. The name of the laminate is Subflor Supreme. I purchased it at a greatly reduced price from original because I got it from DriCore. It's a looooong story that I could bore you with some day.
Anyway, I tried to find the instructions at their web site, and the part I was telling you about seems to be missing. What the picture shows is to use a plane and cut off the high ridge on each side so that the flooring will slide together without having to raise the one side at all. It also said to glue the joint, and tap it together with a pull bar or use strap clamps.
Sorry I can't give you a link to the instructions. I printed them out a few weeks ago. I could send you a copy of them if you would like. You will have to email me your address, unless you want to post it here.

The trick is to rip the toe kick edge at a 45 deg. angle. That way you can get within caulking distance on the edge. Good luck.
