We are thinking of using laminate flooring in our house. Does anyone have any pros or cons? Which brands do you recommend? We are looking for a color a bit darker than oak, with not a whole lot of grain, like oak. This will be in a high traffic area.
thanks,
Mindy

I would recommend engineered flooring instead of a laminate like Pergo. I recently installed engineered wood from I think Universal. I wouldn't use this particular brand again, but in general I've heard better things about durability and such with this than Pergo and its peers. It's made up kinda like plywood, prefinished, about 9/16" thick. The top layer is thick enough that you supposedly can sand and refinish it like 3 times. HD (at least in the northeast) now carries a brand from Shaw Industries, and I think can special order Bruce. But any supplier should have similar. For the dark finish you want, I'd expect special ordering to be necessary.
If everything seems to be going well, you've obviously overlooked something.
