I don’t get out much. We are pretty much out of the mainstream, way up here in New York’s Adirondacks. And I don’t see much on the commute, either. Been working a job since last summer that is just 600 feet from home.
But I have been out and about more lately, and noticing what seems like a trend here . . . two-pitch roofs.
Maybe done as a 9:12 up top, and breaking at the bearing wall line, or even above it, to something shallower, maybe a 7:12.
Sorta makes you think the house is doing a curtsy.
This going on elsewhere?

Back in the early 80's we called them kick tails, usually on
a hip, front/back of house on a 9/12 and the end a 12/12
with kick tails on that end at a 9/12 to bring the cornice all
together around the eaves.
