I just came back from the big box and noticed DeWalt has a retro-fittable laser guide for some of their miter saws. Unfortunately, it will not work for my DW708 slider. Have any of you upgraded your miter (slider or not) to one that has a laser guide, and was the upgrade decision based on that (laser guide) feature alone?

Ive just bought the dw716 the 12" non slider. I bought the laser and will be using it to cut some crown moulding. I have used the saw for little things but did not bother to calibrate the laser yet as it would have been too time consuming and I was just making a couple cuts.
Regardless, the saw is great, so if you decide to upgrade for laser compatability, you won't be dissapointed with the saw.
This weekend I'll be using the laser so we'll see how it goes.
I have the old PC "Laser Loc" chop saw and I love it. The only real problem is that the laser is easily knocked out of calibration but I find it useful enough that I wish they had offered a laser guided slider when I bought my DW as well (same as yours). They get a lot of flak but I think lasers are a great convenience WHEN they're calibrated properly...

The sad thing is the lazer is a single beam. The way its set up twin beams would be easy. I use the spin to light from irwin on my saw and works fine, just watch out for the blade!!
We just bought a throaway mitre saw and it came with the laser mount. We didn't bother mounting it. It's laying in the bottom of the Jobox still in it's wrapper. Obviously, we weren't too enthralled with that feature.
