I’m considering buying a laser level for tile layout and cabinet installation. There is a plethora of models on the market ranging wildly in price. Any advice in terms of best model for the money?

black and decker crossfire...self-leveling and at Canadian Tire for $99.
Pay attention to the accuracy numbers (i.e. 1/8" in 50', etc.) The better the accuracy, the more you'll spend.
I have a Stanley that does ok for tile and cabinets.
pls2e, $190 at coastal tools. its not only accurate, it stays that way. an inexpensive laser can be very expensive. the pls2e can be used outdoors in low light w/o detector. it has a setting to optimize detector.another setting overides the level so you can put yr lines anywhere.
shoots level and or plumb lines, almost all the way around a room if you set it in a corner.very fine line to work with. 1/8th in 30 feet accuracy.don't buy the pls2, which is still being sold for $270 at amazon, but has been discontinued by pls.
get the pls2e w/0 the detector, which you can add later if you need.Edited 3/7/2006 11:07 pm ET by foobytorEdited 3/7/2006 11:08 pm ET by foobytor

Is pls2e an american company? I've never heard of it here in Canada
yes pls is 'merican. the pls2e deal i mentioned is prolly the best bang for the buck in accuracy short and long term of anything out there. if you find you aren't using it you can easily sell it. unlike the consumer varients.
also pls seems to be a favorite amongst peeps on this board and over at jlc. try a four foot drop w/ any other laser.
They are located in CA.

I had a Stanley laser. The bubble was dead on, but the laser was not installed parallel to the body of the level. It was off by 1/4" in 25'. That is consistent with my previous experience with Stanley levels.
