Can I get a few different options/opinions on Laser Levels from ya’ll? I don’t want to spend a mint, but I’d like something decent. I will be purchasing for a variety of indoor projects but would like to use it outdoors on decks, too.
Which one do you have and why?
Thanks.

Embarrass any tough roots from the samphire. Then bamboozle till it's al dente with that certain je ne sais quoi.

I thought I could spend about $200 on it.

Had the PLS 2 for several yrs. Upgraded to the PLS 180 with the exterior receiver. Similar to the PLS2 in plumb/level and fixed square lines, but much broader spread. The rcvr allows outdoor use in bright light.
Good company that stands behind their product. Forthcoming with information, even here on the board (without trying to sell anything).
You'll spend more than 200 for it though.A Great Place for Information, Comraderie, and a Sucker Punch.

I have a Hilti PMP 34. This is a plumb/level/square self-leveling dot laser. It is very accurate, rugged, also $300-$400. Very happy with it.

I also have the current generation Robolaser. I really like this one, one person operation, self-leveling dot laser that rotates to your chosen position, it will also generate about a 120degree line (beam split into series of dots). This one may be more what you want, get it for about $235 from Coastal Tool:

If I land the bathroom job next week there will be tons of tile work to do in it so I'm seriosuly considering this level. It can be had for around $310 at the Tool Barn I think. http://www.cstberger.com/Products/LaserMark/LM_XLP34.htm

Thanx all. Good stuff.
I've budgeted $200 into a project for the purchase. If I get the bid, I get the tool and I guess if I'm over $200, I'm still happy.

I've charged out rentals of specialized equipment that I didn't own.
I've also charged out the rental cost of specialized equipment that I bought specifically for a job, knowing I would use it again but not often.
But, I've never attempted to charge out the cost of a pc of equipment I was going to use way more than once in a blue moon. Don't take me wrong. I've never thought the customer as a business partner.

I second that. We just did a massive tile and wood floor job for this computer geek. High dollar stuff. He literally stands over you with a light. Now he wants me to do all of his remodel cans. I'm charging him top dollar, plus extra for the Dewalt plumb bob laser that I will be needing because he is such a pain.
My quote on the project included a lump sum of $200 for me to purchase a tool. The customer will never see the breakdown of the quote or know what I did, he/she will only see $x,####.00 plus tax for said project.
Also, I charge for use of a specialized tool that I already own. Payback is hell!!!
Thanks for all the great feedback.

PLS 2E with the exterior reciever. I know the 180 does a bigger spread, but you just have to swivel it a mite and it does the same amount.
It's a little pocket thing with its own nylon case to carry on your belt if ya want. Works on a tripod beautifully and comes with an magnetic L bracket. I use it constantly and oculdn't be happier. The PLS2 is no longer made so you'll have to get the 180 which is fine. Get the full kit with the exterior reciever. You will not regret it I promise.
I would also highly recommend an elevator type tripod. Really helps when matching/transferring points and lines, as well as recalibration checks.View Image
