I need some idea’s on how to find potential solutions to a chronically leaking chimney. My company recently put a second floor addition on a house. New shingles where put on the entire house as well as new flashing around the sandstone chimney. The home owners have had the chimney repaired 3-4 other times before my roofer re flashed it, but to no avail. No one could stop the leak. We thought for sure we got it after the new roof and flashing were installed but 4 months later in the middle of our Cleveland, Ohio winter it decided to leak once again. Does anyone have any ideas as to other water problems other then through the flashing which was installed properly with ice guard? There is also a cap on the chimney. Could the water be absorbed through the sand stone? Could there be condensation from the exhaust from the furnace? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! We have never not been able to solve a leaking chimney problem, but this has us baffled. Thanks for any help.
