I removed the old tile in my laundry room. Now the Hardiback isn’t the same height because of some tile removing a little of the hardiback when I chisled it out or whenI removed the old thinset. It is off by about 1/8 of inch.
Now I am ready to prepare for new tile. Do I use thinset to level, then tile or put new hardiback on top of the old and then retile?

Hi John, As long as the tile underlay, whether it's HardieBacker or Durock, is solidly adhered to the subfloor you can skim the low spots with thinset to "level" the floor. You don't want to skim the entire floor or fill a lot of deep holes with thinset though. Ideally the Hardie was set in thinset over the subfloor like big tiles in the first place. This insures your substrate is solid and ready for a good tile job.
