Is there such a critter as a lighted (illuminated) 3 -way dimmer switch?
Figure the illuminated switch would ease identification.
Whether it’s already in your house or picked up at a flea market, vintage hardware almost always needs help.

Yup, they make all flavors, knobs, levers, sliders. Got one on my bench right now, can't remember why I bought it. Must be a switch I was gonna change out somewhere. Both HD and Lowes got em...

I'm looking at a Lutron in my house right now. Decora-style, the paddle is on/off, with a tiny slider to the side for the dimming function. Lighted with a neon bulb. I think these dimmers look the best, as they don't look like, well, dimmers.
Note only the on/off function is "3-way-able"; i.e., the other switch is just an on/off, not a dimmer. If you want a dimmer from both switches, you need something elaborate like X-10, or Grafik Eye.
What it sounds like you have is the Lutron Diva series.

And you are right you only have dimming control from one location, but can be used with other 3way/4way switches.
Lutron also has the Mastero series which allows dimming from up to 10 locations, but you have to use compatable units at all locations.

Lutron also has the Mastero series
And they are very slick once installed, just pricey. A good product.
Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
