I am currently installing a floor to ceiling, cedar lining to the walls of a closet in my house. I am using tongue & groove cedar boards. I have planed & sanded the boards but I have not yet attached them. Since we want the smell of cedar in the closet, my plan is to install the cedar boards without any other type of finish applied to them. Is this a good plan? Should I apply a finish to the cedar boards? If so, what type ( varnish, oil, etc.)? Any advice would be appreciated.

No finish. When you want to smell the cedar again after the scent fades just give it a light sanding.
