I plan on installing a 20kw propane fired standby generator when I build next spring. Are there any code issues I need to consider when locating the beast. Obviously I’d like to put it close to the service entrance/main panel set up. Planning on using a “service disconnect” type transfer box. This would put it within 5 ft of my workshop window. Since I would not be working in the shop during a power outage, the only noise issue would be the weekly self test.

There are regulations concerned with fire separation and exhaust getting sucked into structures, but I don't know what they are. Your local BI or perhaps the fire department should have some data. You need to check those sources anyway since there may be local regs on this.
And of course you know the electrical code regs re having a certified safe transfer switch.
check with the fire marshall. In NH the manufacturers recommendations arent valid and the state fire marshall requires more clearance than the manufacturer suggests. most places the minums are 5 feet from combustible building surfaces, and 10 feet from the propane tanks if youre using them. 5 feet from opeings and vents also.
