To someone I hope will be able to answer my question…..
I have a 1930’s “round log” log cabin. It’s color is faded brown/black and it supposedly was painted with Creosote. It’s now long over due for a paint job…. the only problem is…. I can’t buy any creosote… or at least that’s what “they” say…. Do you all have any SUGGESTIONS as to where I could get some Creosote or a good substitute? The best I have thus found, is a fence and barn paint made by Columbia, which is an oily thin paint/stain.
I also need to fill “lots” of cracks in the logs as well as the cracks which have developed on the tops and bottoms of the mortar chinking. I’ve thought about using roofing mastic/ flashing cement. Do you have any SUGGESTIONS?
Finally… What’s a good mortar mix for the chinking between the logs.
Thanks for your consideration… and hopefully… ANSWERS..
