I am new, so I will just ask. Is this a good place to ask 1 to 2 million log home questions, or could some one recommend a good log home forum with plenty of traffic.
Been working on mine for a while now. Kinda like takin’ a bite out if a big poop sandwich,….now I gotta keep chewin’ and swallow it!

WOW!!! What a Ride!
Pogo , I don't post here alot ( read a good bit here tho) but do a fair amount of old log cabin repair/rebuild. Is yours a kit or from scratch? Bill D. Quality Woodchips in S MD.
All from scratch. White pine logs, 36'to 50' long. 16" to 30" butts. The little wife peeled them all!
We quarried all the stone for the foundation venneer, the retaining walls and the chimney also.I met a gin soaked barroom queen in Memphis, She tried to take me up stairs for a ride!
WOW! Long logs AND good size logs. How do you handle them ? Gin poll ? That's alot of work from scratch. My hats off to you AND " the little wife". I' d be happy to help in any way I can with questions you have. (tho most of the others here at BT have a great knowledge but are to shy to show it). Anyhow ,lots a luck AND BE CAREFUL !! timbers that size are NOT forgiving, a man not far from here was just crushed by an oak 'bout that size. Now I'm off to teach a shingle making workshop with traditional tools and some cypress that's 250 yrs old.Bill D. QWC
There is a website just for log homes--try a google search and you will find something like lhoti.com (I have lost it on my favorites). Anyway, it stands for Log Homes on the Internet.

what stage of costruction are you in?Do you get a lot of T&g?Any log stairs or railing?
Super structure is up and the roof is on. Yard is done, outdoor wood boiler is installed. furnace is in and heating the basement via boiler/forced air furnace. Hickory for the cabinets is all milled dried and stickered. Big(10' tall) windows are at the lumber yard. Also the dormer windows are here. Left over logs are sawn for 8" wide flooring but not t&g milled yet. Veneer stone is out of the ground and pilled up but not split yet.(Galena limestone)
Sure could used advice on log stairs and rails. Cant decide how to go with them yet. round stingers? split or slab treads? scratch watch wind ####...just not sure.
