I am trying to locate some larger than average paving stones, similar to the ones you may see used in large commercial applications, i.e. outdoor mall corridors. They appear to be approx. 24″ square, and may be a bit thicker than what is typically available for residential use. Any one out there know of a good supplier for commercial-type materials, or have tips on where I can start contacting? I live in Richmond VA.

I have a stone supplier that stocks a wide variety of stones, and can get almost anything. He has several pallets of stone in the yard that are similar to what you describbe. Unfortunately the shippng costs would be high. But have you gone to wholsesale stone suppliers?
I'm sorry, I thought you wanted it done the right way.
One quarry is Buckingham Slate in Arvonia, Buckingham county. 800-235-8921 Good folks that'll be happy to take your money. It's heavy, don't show up with a pickup. Or at lunchtime- they close.
Don't know, but could find out, the current status of the Nelson county soapstone quarry if that's something you'd prefer. Tulikivi sold it to a guy who was providing stone to artists. The machinery mostly stayed in place.
