Hello All
I’m building some shoji – type false window panels w/light behind. I saw a product in some magazine (pos. FHB) that was a translucent, acrylic or plastic that had a ‘rice-paper’ texture and appearance. Can’t use frosted glass. Any thoughts, anybody?

There was a discussion about this a while back.
*Back up atcha. Did you forget you had one out here already??
*kalwall distributes to retail thru mailorder form their Solar Components Corp. in Manchester , NHkalwall makes a translucent fiberglass sheet invarious thickness.. and in insulated panels...1/2 inch to 1.5 inch...lots of shoji screens have been built with it...
*A palm sander.80 grit sandpaper.A sheet of plexi.Sand both sides. Now go delete that other post.
*Lumasite http://www.sweets.com/index/profile.htm?site=undefined&id=1006&pid=22518Lumasite normally used in making signs, 2 types are architectural panels that are used for soji like appearance. These type are sold thru the factory (according to their 800 number) the .09" thikness ~$5/sq ft, .125" is ~ $6/sq ft. Come in panels. There is also a material I believe is called sanskin that comes on a roll. fiberglass impregnated so needs to be sealed I've read. Some have used unprinted Tyvek.Been researching for two projects of my own.
*Art supply stores carry a large array of hand-made papers with unbelievably beautiful textures and colors. If you want something unusual but sturdy, mount them on the fiberglass with photomount spray-- regular spray adhesive will turn yellow.
*thanks - I considered that
*thanks boblIt looks like the lumasite is the way I'll go. I'm leaving the final decision up to the architect (they like that). I still like the orbital sander on plexiglass - I've used that on a couple different applications - a front door and some custom flourescent covers. Anyway thanks for the infoRob
*Fax them a letter request and the company will send samples. They won't send samples w/o a fax, won't do it based ona phone call.
