I am looking for vented / openable screened sidelites to install with a patio door. I live in New Hampshire (think: black flies from May – June, then armies of Mosquito the rest of the summer. This patio door opens into my pool area, and I have two young children, so I don’t want to have to open the door to get a breeze through the house.
I know Atrium makes a patio door with vented sidelites, but my contractor said he’s heard a lot of complaints about their doors.
Any suggestions for other companies? I can’t seem to find anyone else who has had the good sense to offer this type of product for those of us who live in buggy climates.
And/or has anyone else heard of problems with Atrium doors?
Thanks much for any help you can offer.

It's beautiful. But you had to have it MADE?Did it cost you an arm and a leg? And who made it?Thanks!
All three arms!!!
My client presented me with a photo of a door they had in their Manhattan apartment. Similiar to that with a transom above.
We couldn't do the transom due to space limitations, and as I'm sure you can see, the door leads to nowhere. Provides good ventilation, I had a one piece screen made for it.
I had a friend make it. His business is fabrication of things made of wood. He did a few doors for his own house, so I asked him to do this one. It's Cherry.
Around 10k if ya need to ask.
Let me know when we start!

10K is DEFINITELY out of my budget.Uggh. OK, I'm hoping that all those door manufacturers are seeing the possibilities here...Good god, I can't believe that only one company is making this..So I guess I'm back to my original question:Has anyone heard anything (good/bad) about Atrium? Not sure why my guys don't like 'em, but maybe there are other opinions???
I have heard of them, just not sure what.
As you can see in the other thread, I speculated that Marvin may be able to do this.
I paid way to much for those doors.
In paint, and from a reasonable fabricator, I can't see more than 5K absolutely tops.
Good luck, and let us know what you find.

As another thought you might consider roller screens. They are giant screens that disappear like roller shades either horizontally or vertically. Specifically made for patio doors and such. I will try to get you some info soon.
Here is that info I promised you.

Thank you VERY much!!!Also found that Bonneville makes some vented sidelights, as well as a patio door series in which you can lower the top half for ventilation, kind of like many screen/glass doors that go outside front doors.Their vented sidelight cranks out like a casement window. I think this company (which is HQed in Quebec) has a better reputation than Atrium does, so will probably go with some combination of their stuff. Thanks for the screen info!
