I haven't seen Ocean's 11. But I've heard some good things about it and I plan to see it sooner or later. I'm reasonable confident I will like it.
But ten years from now my memory of Ocean's 11 will be a bit fuzzy and I will own the DVD of Lord of the Rings (which hopefully will include extra footage to include some missing character development).

*Seen them both - Ocean's 11 was good, but not Oscar material. LOTR was great and is....... There was an audible moan from about half the theater who were expecting a final ending and didn't realize there are three books/three films.
*I didn't see LOTR yet, but we just saw Ocean11.Spy Game was much much better. O11 was pretty good, nothing great. George Clooney. I am amazed God would put so much work into that man. When he was climbing those ropes in the elevator shaft and I could see his butt in those tight khakis, and...and........I gotta' go, uh, uh, DH needs my help.
*okay. I GOTTA see this movie now. hope the theatre is dark enough that DH won't see me drool. Of course, he always tells me GC is gay. and that Patrick Stewart and any other man I find attractive is also gay. Silly man, as if I would ever leave him.
*Haven't seen Ocean's 11, but saw LOTR yesterday.....Loved it, and you're right, some didn't realize this was just the first story......I loved Bilbo and Gandalf(same actor who was in The Keep, one of my favorites).....Get your kids to read this one!!
*Rent the original. These young boys will never have the class of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and the rest of the "Rat Pack"
*...The "Tigger Movie" is really choice...By "Not really in the groove"...(Not n )......so got color T.V. yet?......wink......n...
*My Wife also didn't realize there were 3 parts until after the film. (We saw it Thursday night, in our little theater with 4 rows of seats between the projection room and the screen) So when are the 2nd and 3rd parts due out?I liked the movie. Dang, them orks sure were ugly. Hope none of you guys look like that at the next Petefest..............(-:The charachter of "Strider" wasn't at all like what I envisioned from reading the books. All the rest of the characters were cast pretty well, though. O.K., maybe the princess of the forest was a little flat chested. Pamela Anderson might've been better for that part.
*Lord of the Rings is awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Ocean's 11 is pretty good.Did I mention Lord of the Rings is Awesome?
*I thought Strider was within accepted tolerances. The character that was completely wrong was Butterbur, the innkeeper at Bree. In the book he is delightfully funny. In the movie he is merely morose.I wonder if a lot of Lothlórien was left on the cutting room floor. Blanchett didn't have a lot to work with in terms of what made it on the screen. The second film is scheduled for December 2002, and the third film for December 2003.Rich Beckman
*I can't wait.......Even made me go back and start to reread.......
*Rich - I think thin character development is the main difference between books and the movies made from them. When I'm reading something good, I think about the characters off and on throughout the day, the predicaments they get into, or something they said or did, looking forward to reading about them the next sitting. In a movie, I really don't have time to give each character much thought in the 2 or 3 hours I spend with them.My son took me to see LOR yesterday. He's always read a lot of fantasy, I haven't. I really enjoyed the movie, wouldn't mind seeing it again. "Ocean's 11" was "okay", kinda fun, but nothing special.
*December 2002 - The Two TowersDecember 2003 - Return of the KingThe whole shebang was filmed all at once.Never did quite picture an elf-queen being a hoochie mama...did
*Ditto - I went out and bought the all-in-one book last Friday and read all weekend (which really annoyed DW); I've made it to the edge of Lothlorien. As I read, the movie fades - as awesome as the movie was, the book just blows it away, as is generally the case when a film is based on a book. I still want to see it again - and I've seen it twice already!did
*There are enuf pretty boys that are gay, you start to wonder when you see one. ;-)Mary
*I haven't seen LOR yet and am wondering if 20 years since I read all the books is long enuf to not have the books spoil the movie. They were so vivid in my imagination. I absolutely would not read the books again before seeing the movie. No movie could do the whole book. There are actually 6 books in 3 volumes.Mary
*I suggest mentally separating the books and the film. Both are worthwhile in their own media.did
*I thought that having read the book made the movie easier to follow. It's easy to get lost in all those wierd names & such.
*I agree.....Having read the books made it easier to follow......I was talking to a retired librarian today and he said he didn't really enjoy the movie as he thought it was too violent.....I reminded him it was written for adults.....
*LOTR - I can't say yet, i've still to go.BUT Ocean's 11 --- ORIGINAL IS ALWAYS BESTirishman's 2c worth
