Hello Everyone,
I am from the Olympia, WA area and I am asking members of the forum to tell me what they think are the best lumber yards from Seattle to Portland in terms of price and quality.

Listeners write in about haunted pipes and building-science tomes, and they ask questions about roof venting and roof leaks.

You probably want to ask Jim Blodgett. He's around here somewhere.
I woulsd ask David . He lives out there.
Tim
Yeah, but he's talking further south. Blodgett lives right in the thick of it.
I'm on the central coast of Oregon and I use lumbermen's, cuz of the great customer service. Parr lumber is doing all they can to get our work ( pricing, delivery etc..)
What items are you looking for ? Also, welcome to BT.
Best quality I've seen is Continental Hardwoods (also in Kent), but pricey. They used to throw out 'culls' into a free pile, but no more.
If looking for mostly framing lumber, there are a number of small owner operators that sell only by word of mouth - you could try contacting your local state forestry agent and they possibly can give you some contacts from the small forestland owner list. A neighbor at my cabin by Mossyrock runs a small sawmill and planer operation using his own trees (D Fir, cedar, alder). You could e-mail me and I'll forward the info if he is looking for any new customers.
Price: you cannot beat the free wood lot at Boeing surplus in Kent; however, the retired guys camp out there waiting for the good stuff to come out, so Oly is rather far. Got a nice new 20 ft PT 8x8 the other day.
Hi Junkhound,
I've been a while getting back to the forum. My wife and I are building a custom house after the first of the year. Looking for everything, my background is electrical, not carpentry, so we want an idea of good sources which may be unknown to us. I also dabble in woodworking.
Thanks,
Northwestwood
I had good success with Gray lumber. Tacoma area store and they deliver all over the sound. I also dealt with the guys in Elma(can't remember thier name) but you could probably do better in pricing with other yards in Olympia and Tacoma.
Hardwoods and cabinet grade plywoods , I suggest Architectural Wood products in Algona, Wa.
