Some of us have ‘strategic reserves’, others do not, some have it worse than others..
dont have a web link, actually still get a ‘paper paper’, but DW was reading this morning’s WSJ, with an article with same title as this thread. Maybe rez or Luka can find a link.
What I heard from DW as I walked into the kitchen ‘you better never get this bad, it is NOT funny’ !!

A detective looks at the body of Langley Collyer, found in April 1947 after tons of debris had been cleared. Right, Langley in 1946.
There's a new TV show on the A&E channel about this very thing, it's called Hoarders. http://www.aetv.com/hoarders/
My mother is a pack rat. It's not as bad as the WSJ article, but it's bad.
I'm not a king of clutter, more like a pawn...or better, the Joker of clutter.
The only thing I seem to collect are things on my "to do" list. I wish I could lose tomorrow's list: "Dig footing trench" Sadly, no hydraulics. Just a shovel, a pickaxe and a couple of wheelbarrows. Ah, summertime!
I've been in some houses like the one in the picture
One of them was a client's house
She asked me if I would help her move and I said "ok"
On the day of the move I showed up at the allotted time and walked into the home.
SHE HADN'T PACKED ANYTHING
THERE WERE NO PACKED BOXES TO LOAD INTO THE TRUCK
Instead she handed us some large trash bags and asked us to put everything in trash bags and then onto the uhaul
Wow, what an experience that was
One professional clutterer's license please.

I think I've finally gotten to a point in my life where I want to streamline. Spend more time living, and less time being a slave to my "stuff". So, the idea is to think carefully before buying anything... and think carefully before "buying into" anything too - this means no more bringing things home from work like scrap material, etc, just because I might need it some day.
Now - If I could just go outside and clean out my truck...
Hopefully you don't have any dead bodies under your clutter.
(-:
Almost bought a book about "Why people hoard things" and put it back because I realized it would just add to the clutter!

Then there was the couple who died during the Northridge earthquake here in 1992 when the walls of boxes of stuff they'd stacked around their bed fell over on them.
I vowed to streamline after my mom inherited an old gentleman's 3 bedroom apartment full of belongings, and it took us 2 full weeks to sort through the stuff to glean out anything of significance or value.
If I'm struck by lighting (or a bus) I don't want my kids and DH to have to go through all of my crepe to find the good stuff.

So how much did you save from the 3 br house?"Put your creed in your deed." Emerson
"When asked if you can do something, tell'em "Why certainly I can", then get busy and find a way to do it." T. Roosevelt
Didn't save the old newspapers etc because there was so much to do.
Shame because he probably had the front page when WWII broke out, etc.
Poor man had no family. He had a collection of antique furniture that was divided between Mom, my sister, and grandmom; and I got to pick one very nice chair because we don't have a lot of room in our house. The cats claimed it immediately.
