Assoc. press story in local paper today,
Putting this in ‘general discussion’ vs woodshed as a little scary; a Christmas toy present warning for those with little kids or grandkids that like to eat ‘everything’. .
2 year old in our area died at hospital emerg. room.
Parents thought he had the flu, vomiting, can’t eat, etc. Died of cardiac arrest.
Findings showed he had apparently swallowed, at different times, loose magnets off a toy; Photo of toy in South King Co. Journal showed about a 1/8″ square by 1/4″ long magnet. Worst case wrong location, pinched off intestines.
Especially scary to me as I let the 3 YO grandson (only under supervision) experiment (as opposed to play) with Neobnium rare earth magnets that are only 3/8″ dia. Think the death was only cheap alnico magnets. Definetly will not let grandson EVER play with NeBFe magnets alone until he understands the danger and can do simple arithmetic. … even then, as I watched, few months ago 6 YO grandson cut his finger with a 1 in sq NeBFe magnet when he got his finger between it and an old alnico speaker magnet.
Hopefully you take this as a ‘heads up’ warning vs scare mongering, did the title so you would look anyway if you have kids or grandkids that are toddlers. . .
