I have a sider who installed a T & G mahogany soffit onto trusses. He left a 1/2 inch gap along the long side for expansion. The ceiling has buckled in a few places and the other bulder wants him to replace the ceiling. Is this a common problem and is he responsible? The builder supplied the materials. Any ideas? Thanks

I can't answer your specific question but, in general, kiln-dried mahogany has a very low rate of expansion-contraction. That's the main reason it was the wood of choice in the pattern-making industry.
