Anyone know where I can order some Hot dipped roofing nails – specifically 1 3/4″ for a decent price? I found this http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000DD5T7/qid=1104801580/sr=1-19/ref=sr_1_19/103-2631800-4515840?v=glance&s=hi on amazon, but don’t think they are hot dipped. I hate ordering nails but can’t find any hot dipped locally. I have a Hitichi roofing gun, if that matters.
Thanks,

Maize Nails
i get mine from a local distributor.. DaJo Sales
yea... I knew you were gonna say Maze - and I'll be the first one to agree they are the best... but.... $20 a box more than electro and the box is half the size...
Isn't there maybe some single dipped generic ones around or somethin? Matt
matt about 2 -3 years ago.. we used to use only Paslode.. they had the best galv. on readily available nails..
but i guess no one wanted to pay their price so they outsourced them and the new , cheaper nails are not as good..
my Dajo salesman pointed this out to me...
he said most will not pay the extra price..
we only use the Maize hot dips for our fiber cement siding.. i figure if i'm using a lifetime product like FC, why use a nail that could bleed on my work...
take a look at the bostich roofing nail...
if you find a good one , let me know... we put a lot of 50 year shingles on roofs now.. i hate the thought of using a 20 year nail.. especially around salt waterMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
I ordered some Maze... But at $.025 to "pull the trigger" I'm not real happy. Non pros and the like may not see the significants in that price, but bottom line is it comes off the bottom line... ;-) My read on the fact that they are so scarce is that nobody uses them... And then there is Mike Smith... Who sets the goal for us all to work toward, it's just that not everyone has clients willing to pay ~$150 a foot... Moony wall and all. I think that in addition to the fact that Mike has just plain earned his niche as a premiere builder, the cost of real estate in RI supports the high prices that he must have to charge... The lots I'm building on right now were $15k - you do the math... Matt
matt.. are you using them for FC blind nailing ?
i hear you.. it just drives me crazy to think of 100 year siding put up with 20 year nails
we occasionally get to work on cedar roofs
a lot of them are failing because the shingles fall out.. we start stripping ... the shingles are fine.. have at least 10 years left in them... the nails are all rusted thru and failing... electro galv.. in a salt air atmosphere... hah, hah, hah...
anyways.. we've always used hotdipped, except when we went thru a period of silicone bronze boat nails ( before SS became readily available )... on asphalt roofs we do use generics.....because that's all that's out there..
but for special jobs ( like FC ).... or maybe asphalt over an exposed bead-board roof/ceiling.. we get the Maze..
if i get a different supplier & better price.. i'll let you knowMike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
>> are you using them for FC blind nailin <<
Yes.
Matt
Take a look at stainless and sudenly Maze hot dipped look reasonable. Its getting to the point where you could have a weding ring made out of the stuff and not look like a cheap s.o.b.
