Does anyone have a source for direct mail order purchasing of residential light fixtures? Buying retail, even with a “builder’s discount”, doesn’t yield much value for $. We may have to use kerosene lights if we don’t find a cheaper source.

Russ,
Don't know about direct mail lighting (good idea though). However, if you go with kerosene, I do have some suggestions.

Russ, check out Rejuvenation Lamp & Fixture Company. 1-888-401-1900 to order a catalog. They also have a site at http://www.rejunvenation.com. They can custom create a fixture for you and are great folks to deal with. I have ordered fixtures for my own home from them as well as recommending them to clients of mine. Not to sure if the pricing will be where you want it but the fixture(s) will be exactly what you want as you can specify what they will be. Of course all their fixtures are UL approved. Good luck.

Russ - what kind of fixtures did uou have in mind: the absolute least expensive recessed can or heirloom quality brass (like the Rejuvenation that Bill Larson suggests)?
*Try the following:Golden Valley Lighting -- http://www.gvlight.com/index.htmlLighting Outlet -- http://www.lightoutlet.comI've ordered from Golden Valley and Rejuvenation with good results. The former has standard brands, like Kichler and Hartford, and Rejuvenation makes their own. I haven't ordered from Lighting Outlet, which also has standard brands, but I have from their sister company, Faucet Outlet, with satisfactory results.Barry
*The fixtures we're trying to source are hanging lights for the foyer and dining room and exterior post and door lights. We don't need custom design but do want quality. The builder has quoted $50 apiece for sealed can lights installed which doesn't sound too bad. We'll use these in all of the other rooms and hallways.

Don't let the customization feature at Rejuvenation scare you off. They do have their standard fixtures, of the era and type you may be looking for. You can go with these standard fixtures or customize as necessary
