I’m wanting to redo a kitchen in an 81 year old hold with structural brick walls. I would like to vent the new range hood with an approximately 11″ X 5″ rectangle hole through an exterior wall. Will I need to install a ledger or is the opening small enough to not need one? If so – what kind will I need? Also sincet his will have heated exhuast fumes from a high btu stove, what would be the best material to fill in around the hole to help keep air from penetrating?
All help is appreciated!

probably not.
the best material to fill in around the hole
metal duct and the "end cap" that will have a flapper to prevent air from coming back into the duct-birds, etc.
Why not transition to a round duct so that you can cleanly and neatly core drill through the brick? Much easier and no real gap to fill.
