Hi,
I’ve just replaced a small section of oak strip flooring. Is there a way to give the new wood the older amber look of the old finish?
Thanks,
Mike

if you use a oil poly that will yellow it some.i have had some luck with shellac on trim ,it gives a yellow golden tint to the wood. don't know if it would work on floor. other than that play with some stain to get close. larry
hand me the chainsaw, i need to trim the casing just a hair.
With some scraps of the new flooring, experiment with various stains.
You'll not likely get a perfect match...but you should be able to get something close enough that it won't scream at you "Floor patch, floor patch!!"

Go to Woodcraft or online and get some TransTint, I think the color is called Honey Amber. I add it to WB poly at about 8 drops per quart... it's exactly what you're looking for. Lemme know if you need any other info.
