I want to replace bath vanity top with solid surface material (Formica Graniti)with undermount sink. I will list what and how I plan to make this with some questions. Please add whatever advice you have to make this right. I can only get 1/2″ thick material since even Lowes will not sell blank sheets. 1. Cut the top according to template. Locate sink cut out. 2. Rough cut sink hole using jigsaw. 3. Install sink. Question: Is 1/2″ thickness enough for the recessed nuts of the sink brackets? Should I build up the places where these nuts will go to 3/4″? If I pass #3, 4. Route the rough sink cut out using the sink as a guide (will use right ball bearing to leave 1/8″ lip over the sink). I would tape the area where the router bit bearing will ride. If I can’t do this, I will have to smooth the edge by hand. Thank you in advance for the advice.

The longer length of these 3-in. stair gauges makes it easier to ensure an accurate layout when working with waned lumber.

#4 go to granite dealer with sink and tell them what you want, have them make it for you
Get a nylon covered bearing for your router bit. Other than that, you're basically on the right track.

Thank you all for replies. Nylon coated bearing is new to me, although it's been sometime since I checked tool catalogues. That is definitely the way to go. Thanks all.
