hey guys what do you think about these combo offers? I have a 14v makita drill already w2 batteris and charger but the gears inside the drill are almost gone. The combo with the floresent work light and IMPACT driver. looks like a good choise-then I’ll have extra batteries. Waddaya think about the imact drivers though any of you have the makita.

Once you use an impact driver to set screws, you will wonder why you waited so long. I have their 12v version.
I too am committed to the Makita 14.4 volt. I picked up the drill and impact driver kit from Heavy Duty Tools after Thanksgiving. Came with the flourecent light, two batteries and a charger.
The impact driver is great. I never could bring myself to really believe all the hype, but I am now a believer. When the impact kicks in it sounds like the clutch is getting slammed but the screws just keep going in.
The light is handy, puts out a good bit of light but when the battery is near depleted the light just goes out, not dim, but out. It will let you turn it off and then on and it will light up for a few seconds. I would hope it would cycle like that enough to get you out of crawl space or attic.
If you don't have the NiMH batteries yet you will like them too. Beats the pants off the NiCAD.
Get the impact driver you won't regret it.
Got the LXT 600 kit for Xmas. Get the bill for New Years.
Kits are the only way to go. Serious savings. Can sell extra tools on E Bay.
I needed the 4.5 cordless grinder, so I went LXT 600. Lot of places I would use that. Ace Tools threw in an extra battery, which cut the price. I ordered another battery/ charger combo from Amazon, so I have charger in garage and in the field - and four batteries.
I have been using the Bosch 18v NiCad kit, which is my basis of comparison. My first impression of these tools is very positive.
THE SAW - Don't know how it will cut (done a few 2x, no problems) but it's a serious saw.
Unlike the Bosch 18v, this one has a cast alum. table that is machined on the bottom and both sides, set screws to adjust the 90 and 45 angle stops. You can cut to 50 dgs. There is a dust collector accessory. Good feature - double safety switch (L or R) that can be reached with your hand in the correct position. No hand contortions.
Comparison: The Bosch 18 circ looks tinny. Gimcracky. Dare I say the R word? Always feels like it will drain the battery in mid kerf. Not inspiring confidence. Looking at it, if that kit did not have a jigsaw (much more solid toos), which I use all the time, I would have gone Rigid. Their cordless saw is a much more serious one.
THE IMPACT DRIVER - Seems to weigh a bit less than my Bosch 9.6v. Nicely set up. LED headlights - very handy. And, wonder! That plastic ring in the front glows in the dark. (That's a new one on me.) These tools are really worth having. Buy an impact driver before a drill.
THE HAMMER DRIVER - DRILL - Lighter than that 18v Milwaukee I was using last week. That sucker will build serious shoulder muscles. This has dual LED headlights, selections for Hammer, Screw, Drill and three speed settings.
THE RECIP SAW - LED headlights. Rafter hook. Should work OK.
THE GRINDER - Great - it comes with both a single and double guard. Looking forward to using it. Got 65 light poles to replace.
THE FLASH LIGHT - This tool got a workout under the kitchen sink in the Great Disposal Changeout. Quite handy.
THE BAG - Traveling suitcase on wheel, actually. It went to the attic. These things get humungeous and heavy.
I have divided the tools into two of the Husky bags that were on sale. One has the impact driver and hammer driver/drill and all sorts of bits and such for screwing and drilling. The other has the recip, the circ saw, the grinder and flashlight. This stuff is not accessed as often, so I stow it elesewhere in the van. The grinder might go in the bag with the 120v grinder and media.

I had a 12V makita impact and did a ton of work with it. Thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. It can plow 3.5 inch deckmates through lumber untill the screw is so deep it comes off the driver bit without slowing down. My only real complaint was the NiMH batteries seemed to fade off (within their service life) So, instead of replacing batteries I went for the LiON kit from heavy duty tools. Holy Cow. What a difference a few generations of R+D makes. The 18V takes all the good stuff of the 12V line and makes it WAY WAY WAY better. Get the LiON kit. you wont regret it.
That's a great kit. A bud has the 12 volt and it rocks. I picked up a Milwaukee 12 v set for $150.00 at HD.
I looked at the link..............are those batteries supposed to be red??

Thanks guys I think I will go for a li-ion kit.
I have some Milwaukee drills and had a gear failure on one. They would not sell me a gear but did have the gears like a cartridge for $35 at the time. It was an easy fix.
