Hey Fellas, Does anybody know why Makita changed the base on the 7 1/4 circ saw and clipped the base off on an angle? Why why why?

I'm trying to figure out why Dewalt clipped the corner off their DW369, too....
I've been using the new base for a couple of years now and don't miss that back corner at all. By the time you would anticipate using it to bear on the work, the cut is finished. It added weight and an edge to snag.
Only you can change. Open your heart and embrace the new base.
so.. can't I just clip the base of the saws I have now? Hmm... I may have a marketing scheme here. Saw Bases Clipped While You Wait - Only $10 a saw! ~ Ted W ~

This is usually done to minimize damage to the base when the saw is set down or dropped. The theory is that a square corner will bend, while a clipped corner is more likely to deflect impact.
Makes sense now! But why clip so much off?

I have a 8-1/4 Makita with a clipped base and it has come in handy whencutting material that I put a quick clamp on or near, because it takes less space to start the cut, if that makes sense. I remember having an AhHa moment over it.
