I’m remodelling a kitchen and love the look of Carrera Marble for the countertop. However, I’ve read many times that marble is porous and will stain. I’m looking for a substitute that has the marble look but wears better.
The Winter 2004 issue of Fine Homebuilding (Kitchens & Bath annual issue) featured a kitchen where the owner faced the same dilemma and found a white granite that looked like marble. Any idea what that is? Any other thoughts welcome. thanks,
Paul

Don't know, but I'll BUMP your question back up to the top of the list. Maybe someone else will know.
I just installed granite counter tops. Chose granite over marble on the recommendation of the vendor. He said both will stain, but the granite stains less and is really susceptible only to coffee and red wine. Both need to to be sealed annually.
I used Silestone in my house. It lacks a little of the character of marble, but looks very much along the lines of granite. The big plus though is that Silestone is bulletproof; none of the sealing treatment annually, not suseptible to stains, etc. Plus, it's a full 1 1/8" thick which I like. Anyway, good stuff in my book.
Don't have a name for you, but there are good pictures of different granite colors at http://www.stonevue.com/IGM%201-3-03/Granite%20Frame.htm
You might look at Cashmere White, Kashmir White (same thing), and Supreme White
