Bathroom, shower suround and walls.
1.Light cream 3/8″thick 4X4 wall tiles, can I use premix to set them?
2. If I use thinset do I have to use the more expensisve white stuff?
3. What are the the sealing issues (before and after grout) with marble, specifically a rough tumbled surface, looks quite porous?
4.Now that I am thinking about the shower it occurs to me that a porous marble may need more than cement backer board. Is this so?

You can use a CBU as your backer. No problem and yes you need the white stuff. Marble is soft and the color will show through.

1. No.
2. Yes.
3. Seal the tiles before grouting. At least two applications.
4. You will need a vapor barrier behind the CBU.
I run a membrane behind my backer board lapped over th etub lip in shows and tubs.
Definitely use the white thinset for this light coloured marble.
There are sealers and waxs available at good stone/tile stores for sealing the surface.
