I’m working on a jobsite and the tiler is using marble in the shower surround with no space between the pieces. He tells me that its not a problem and that it will be waterproof as long as even a small amount of grout ends up in the cracks. I just wondered if anyone has any educated thoughts they would like to share on this. My concern is that the any leaks will create trouble for the client down the road. This guy seems to have an answer for every question but I know at least some of what he’s come out with is bs. Thanks is advance for any commments.

I've been installing stone tiles this way for 15 years. I think it looks best. As for the grout, this is why we use unsanded grout. It is so fine it gets into even the tightest spaces. It does require a bit more effort but not much.

There he goes—one of God's own prototypes—a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live and too rare to die.

If they use cement board, I don't see any problem with the application. I prefer to keep the joints 1/16" or less.
Frankies got it....unsanded grout and all will be well.
Only in extremely rare instances have I seen anyone install marble with a grout joint.
