I have piddled around with basic brick/block construction, but i am interested in learning more. Is there a school that anyone would recommend for more in-depth learning of the skills of the trade. I know just enough to be dangerous but would like to remedy that.

Abell, other than apprenticeship programs, I don't think it is possible to get the weekend course in laying masonry units. If you are in the Puget Sound Area, you can observe my best jouneyman between making cuts on the saw and scraping walls :).
I'm in southern IN (and almost a Kentuckian). I've tried to get a couple of masters to let me help them (even pay them to let me help) but nobody wants a helper, I guess.
It would seem to me that there are basic methods that apply flashing, expansion joints, etc. that one should be able to learn with a little hands-on instruction. I don't want to do it for a living! I just want to know how to do small projects around the home (or build a brick dinosaur)!
We got a local community trade school that teaches welding, electricity, carp, HVAC and masonary. you can take classes day, night, or on saturdays. I always wanted to learn block laying. not for a living but side money.
abell I would try adult education night classes at
your local trade school or community collage, a lot
of them offer night classes as a place to start or
try Masonry magazine / past issues/ for specfic
information. You will find out that most masons
are a differant breed, protectionest, and clannish,
heck i'm one myself.
Thanks.
I'll take a look around here to see what I've missed.
